Dipset never really left. But this is a proper reunion.
"Stop Playing With Us" is a cut off Double Trouble, the new Diplomats album from JR Writer, Hell Rell and Duke Da God, with Jim Jones joining on this track. Harlem to the core, no compromise. The video captures exactly the energy the title promises. Four Dipset veterans reminding everyone that the movement that defined an entire era of New York rap is still fully operational in 2026.
The context behind Double Trouble is worth knowing. Hell Rell, JR Writer and Duke Da God told TMZ that the project has been decades in the making, and their goal is bigger than a single album. They see themselves as the OGs now tasked with getting NYC hip-hop that sticks back on the map. Duke Da God A&Rs and executive produces, which puts the stamp of authenticity on the whole project for longtime fans. And notably, they credit Griselda, Westside Gunn, Benny The Butcher and Conway the Machine, for keeping the beloved NYC sound alive after drill threatened the operation. That is a genuine passing-of-respect between generations.
The Diplomats history runs deep. Formed in Harlem by Cam'ron, Jim Jones, Juelz Santana and Freekey Zeekey, then expanded to include JR Writer, Hell Rell and 40 Cal. Diplomatic Immunity in 2003 is a cornerstone New York record. The pink mink, the ByrdGang energy, the mixtape dominance of the mid 2000s. JR Writer's Writer's Block series is still studied for pure technical rhyming. Hell Rell built his name on Freestyle Friday and never softened. Duke Da God curated the beat selection that gave Dipset its sound.
There is a hopeful subtext too. The trio has said they want Double Trouble to eventually bring Cam'ron and Jim Jones back on the same page, after the two longtime collaborators drifted apart. Jim Jones appearing on "Stop Playing With Us" is a step in exactly that direction, whether or not the full reunion happens.
