Here is a duo I want to put on your radar: The Doppelgangaz from Orange County, New York. Nexium is a good first taste of what they do.
The Ghastly Duo
Matter Ov Fact and EP have been friends since childhood, and they handle everything themselves: they rap, they dig for samples and they make their own beats. Their sound is raw and dusty, with a lot of mid-90s New York in it, and they like to perform in black cloaks. Nexium appears on their album Lone Sharks, released on their own label Groggy Pack.
My Take
As a producer, I have a lot of respect for MCs who also make their own beats. Keep an eye on these two.
