New music from Rock of Heltah Skeltah. Almost Over is a reminder of how much weight that voice still carries.
The Rockness Monsta
Rock and Sean Price came up together in Brooklyn as Heltah Skeltah, part of the Boot Camp Clik with Buckshot, Smif-N-Wessun and O.G.C. Their debut Nocturnal from 1996 is still a classic for me, and in 2008 the two reunited for D.I.R.T. Rock's deep, booming voice is one of the most recognizable in New York rap, and he sounds just as heavy on this one.
My Take
I would love to hear a full solo album from Rock. And if you want to hear what his partner in rhyme is up to, check out Sean Price going in on a Mobb Deep instrumental.
