New video from Roc Marciano. Emeralds is the first taste of his next album Reloaded, and it sounds just as cold and laid-back as you would hope.
After Marcberg
The MC from Hempstead, Long Island, came up with Busta Rhymes' Flipmode Squad and later the group U.N. In 2010 he made a big statement with his solo debut Marcberg, which he largely produced himself and which brought that dark, minimal New York sound back. With Reloaded, the follow-up is on the way, and Q-Tip is said to be on board as executive producer.
Emeralds
Roc does what he does best: quiet, confident and every line in its place. No big hook, no unnecessary noise, just a slow, dusty loop and a lot of style. If this is how Reloaded sounds, it will be one of the albums to look out for this year.
My Take
Roc Marciano is one of the most interesting MCs in New York right now. I am looking forward to the album.
