If you have not heard of The Doppelgangaz yet, this is a good place to start. The duo from Orange County, New York, is back with a new video for What Am I.
The Ghastly Duo
Matter Ov Fact and EP have been friends since childhood, and they do everything themselves: they rap, they dig for samples and they make their own beats. Their sound is raw and dusty, very much in the tradition of mid-90s New York, and they like to wear black cloaks on stage. Their album Lone Sharks on their own label Groggy Pack got a lot of people talking, and their instrumental series Beats for Brothels is worth a listen for every beat head.
My Take
As a producer, I have a lot of respect for MCs who also make their own beats. The Doppelgangaz are one of the most interesting underground acts out there right now.
