Busta Rhymes & J Dilla – Back Pain, Chest Pain, Head Pain (Dillagence II)

Busta Rhymes and J Dilla Back Pain, Chest Pain, Head Pain official video still, from the album Dillagence II

Busta Rhymes released the official video for "Back Pain, Chest Pain, Head Pain" on October 16. J Dilla produced the beat. Benny Boom directed the clip together with The Dragon, Busta's own alias. The song is track five on Dillagence II, the album Busta built entirely on Dilla beats.

Dillagence II

Dillagence II came out on August 25, 2026 via The Conglomerate. It follows Dillagence, the mixtape Busta released with DJ Mick Boogie in 2007, one year after Dilla passed. The new album runs 19 tracks and opens and closes with words from Ma Dukes, Dilla's mother. Busta has said Dilla left him more than 300 beats. Guests include D'Angelo, Lil Wayne, Big Sean, Ludacris, Common, Talib Kweli, Anderson .Paak and T3 of Slum Village.

The connection goes back to the nineties. Dilla worked on Busta's debut The Coming and contributed beats to six of his first seven solo albums. This album is the result of three decades of that relationship.

The Beat

"Back Pain, Chest Pain, Head Pain" is one of the harder records on the album. According to WhoSampled, Dilla built it on Mantronix's "King of the Beats" from 1988, a record he also flipped for "One for Ghost". Busta does what the title promises and goes straight at the listener for four minutes. He is already pushing the song for a Best Rap Performance nomination.

As a beatmaker, I keep coming back to Dilla's drums. Twenty years after his death, his beats still give a veteran like Busta a reason to rap this hungry. If you want to dig into how he programmed his drums, I collected a J Dilla drum tutorial in my Beatmaking 101 starter pack.
