May 29, 2026 · This Week in Hip-Hop
Some weeks come up empty. CW 22 is one of them. The two visible rap names dropping today are Pouya with Foreverglades and Latto with Big Mama. Neither of them belong on this radar. Latto is mainstream in a lane this blog does not cover. Pouya is Southern underground with a loyal audience, but the orbit has its own world and it does not connect to what widontplay is built around. Noting both because they exist, leaving both because they are not the point.
Nothing from the Griselda camp, nothing from the Alchemist pipeline, nothing out of Detroit or the East Coast underground that landed this week. The crates stay clean.
What Is Actually Coming
The release worth watching right now is Blu & Exile's fifth album together. The project has been confirmed with features from Black Thought, Mach-Hommy, and Rome Streetz. No hard date yet, but those four names in one room — Blu over Exile's production, with Thought and Mach-Hommy bringing their respective weights — is exactly what this blog exists to cover when it lands. Below the Heavens turned twenty years old last year. The fifth album has a lot to carry and all the right people to carry it.
Also on the radar: Vince Staples has Cry Baby confirmed for later this year. Vince operates in a different lane than the classic Boom Bap catalog this blog runs on, but his level of craft and independence earns attention here when it matters. That one is worth tracking as the date gets closer.
The pipeline has product. CW 22 just was not the week it arrived.
