Conway the Machine picks up a Clipse beat and makes it his own. "Chains & Whips" is a freestyle shot on the streets of New York City — raw, unfiltered, no frills. Just Big Con on a mic reminding everyone why the conversation about top MCs in the game starts and ends with Buffalo.
The choice of beat is deliberate. "Chains & Whips" is a Clipse record — and Clipse performed it live at Coachella back in April. Conway taking that instrumental into his own hands is a statement without needing to be one. Pusha T and No Malice built that track on the same foundation Conway has always operated on: luxury references, street weight, unflinching delivery. It fits.
The freestyle connects to Conway's new mixtape I Heard You Paint Houses, available exclusively via Laylo. The title alone is a nod to Charles Brandt's book about Jimmy Hoffa and the mob — the same material Scorsese turned into The Irishman. That's the aesthetic Conway lives in: organized crime references, cinematic weight, bars that feel like they carry consequence.
