Gangrene is back. The Alchemist and Oh No have announced a new album titled Better Than McDonalds and the first visual just dropped.
The ":1" in the title suggests more videos are incoming. The rollout is starting and if the Gangrene track record means anything, the album behind it is going to be worth the wait.
Gangrene is one of those projects that exists entirely on its own terms. The Alchemist and Oh No first linked as a duo in 2010 with Gutter Water, establishing an aesthetic that had nothing to do with what anyone else was doing at the time. Dark, experimental, violent in its lyricism, busy and chaotic in its production. Vodka & Ayahuasca followed in 2012, You Disgust Me in 2015 with Action Bronson, Evidence, Havoc, Sean Price and Your Old Droog in the feature slots. Then a nine-year gap before Heads I Win, Tails You Lose arrived in 2024 with ANKHLEJOHN, Boldy James and Evidence. Every album picks up exactly where the last one left off. No drift, no concessions.
The pairing works because both MCs are equally strong behind the boards. Alchemist produces his half, Oh No produces his, and somehow the two approaches blend into a single consistent world. As rappers they complement each other in the same way. Alchemist's choppy flow against Oh No's unpredictable rhyme patterns. Organized chaos is the only way to describe it.
Better Than McDonalds is the fifth Gangrene album. No tracklist confirmed yet, no features announced, no release date. But the first visual is out and that is enough to go on for now.
