July 31 is one of the heavier release days of the year. Dave East and Harry Fraud dropped Price of Pain on Tuesday. Today brought CRIMEAPPLE's EP, a Boldy James single, a new Inspectah Deck track, Dark Lo and V Don, Cappadonna, Frank Nitt and Illa J paying tribute to J Dilla, an Earl Sweatshirt feature on a Cletus Strap single, Jay Worthy with Estevan Oriol behind the camera, and a Freddie Gibbs feature on Saint Bodhi's "Monsterz." Jay-Z's debut single "In My Lifetime" from 1994 also finally hits streaming today. The week is documented below.
Dave East & Harry Fraud – Price of Pain
The write-up this record deserves starts here. Price of Pain dropped July 29 — Dave East and Harry Fraud's first collaborative LP since Hoffa in 2021 — and it is, as the UndergroundHipHopBlog put it, the greatest Dave East has sounded since leaving Def Jam. The combination of East's Harlem street storytelling and Fraud's cinematic production has always been the correct match, and across 14 tracks the two operate with the confidence of people who know exactly what they are doing and why.
The three singles that led the rollout — "Alley Oop" with Styles P, "Minding My Business," and "Everything Is Up" with Benny The Butcher — all delivered, and the full album holds the same level. The complete feature list: Benny The Butcher, 38 Spesh, Styles P, Snoop Dogg, AZ, Cruch Calhoun, SUZI, Don Jiggy. Harry Fraud handled all production, mixed and mastered by John Sparkz, released on FTD / SRFSCHL, LLC. The album title does not need much unpacking. Harry Fraud's catalog speaks for itself. Dave East has been releasing music at an extraordinary pace in 2026 — four projects before this announcement — and Price of Pain is the one that consolidates that output into a statement.
CRIMEAPPLE – Top 85 Dead or Alive
CRIMEAPPLE drops an EP today. Top 85 Dead or Alive is the latest entry in one of underground hip-hop's most consistent solo catalogs — a rapper who has worked across the entire Estee Nack, Mike Shabb, and Tabernackle orbit, whose name showed up on Live at the Tabernackle Vol. II just over a month ago. No features announced, no mainstream pull, no streaming algorithm to answer to. Just CRIMEAPPLE building on the same foundation he has maintained across years of underground releases. One of the names this blog keeps coming back to for good reason.
Inspectah Deck & SiahLaw – Shaolin Rebel 2
The follow-up to last week's "Day In The Life" with Baegod. Inspectah Deck has been in active release mode — CZARFACE content earlier this month, the Baegod pairing last Friday, and now Shaolin Rebel 2 with SiahLaw today. Deck is clearly in a creative phase and each new track adds to the same argument: that Wu-Tang is not an archive but a living operation. SiahLaw brings his own gritty energy to the track. Two weeks running, Deck is on the widontplay radar.
Dark Lo & V Don – Made of Gold
Dark Lo operates in the BSF / Black Soprano Family orbit — Benny The Butcher's label, the same extended Griselda ecosystem this blog covers consistently. V Don is a Griselda-adjacent producer who has worked with Stove God Cooks, Benny The Butcher, and various names in the Philadelphia and East Coast underground. Made of Gold dropped yesterday (July 30) on Serious Soundz — fifth collaborative studio album between the two. Street rap, soulful production, no compromise on the bars.
Cletus Strap ft. Earl Sweatshirt – nonchalant
Cletus Strap is a Toronto-based rapper who has been building credibility in the Billy Woods / abstract underground space. Earl Sweatshirt featuring on his new single today is a significant co-sign in that lane — Earl does not appear casually, and his presence on a Cletus Strap track says something about where Cletus Strap sits in the current underground conversation. The title "nonchalant" is doing its own work: an Earl Sweatshirt feature titled nonchalant is either a statement or a joke and probably both simultaneously.
Jay Worthy – TRIPPIN (Dir. Estevan Oriol)
Estevan Oriol directed Xzibit and B-Real's "This Thing of Ours" video last week. This week he is behind the camera again for Jay Worthy's "TRIPPIN." Oriol and Jay Worthy's West Coast Los Angeles connection is natural — Worthy is from Compton, has worked with The Alchemist, appeared on Larry June records, collaborated with Westside Gunn, and consistently operates in the cinematic West Coast lane that Oriol's lens suits perfectly. "TRIPPIN" is exactly what it says: hazy, slow-rolling, low-rider energy, the kind of West Coast visual that works because the culture behind it is real and the director behind the camera knows it from the inside.
Saint Bodhi – Monsterz ft. Freddie Gibbs
Freddie Gibbs has been a feature machine in 2026 — he showed up on the RBT EP, the Alchemist Liquid Form sessions, and now he appears on "Monsterz" with Saint Bodhi. Saint Bodhi is an alternative artist whose sound sits closer to R&B and alternative pop than to street rap, which makes the Gibbs feature the track's most interesting element — two worlds colliding without either one bending toward the other. The lyric video is out now. Freddie Gibbs doing his thing in an unexpected context is never a reason to skip the track.
