Jay Worthy, George Clinton, LNDN DRGS & Larry June – P of the Week feat. Leven Kali | Video

This one connects two generations of West Coast funk in ways that should not work on paper but absolutely do in practice.

"P of the Week" is the latest single from Generation P, the collaborative album between Jay Worthy and George Clinton, dropping August 28. Jay Worthy and producer Sean House form like Voltron as the duo LNDN DRGS for this project, the follow-up to the Once Upon A Time series. Larry June and Leven Kali join them on this cut, which lands exactly where you would expect given the combined aesthetic of everyone involved: warm, slow, West Coast, soulful.

George Clinton needs no introduction. Parliament-Funkadelic, the architect of P-Funk, one of the most sampled artists in hip-hop history. His fingerprints run through the entire genre from Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre's The Chronic through nearly every West Coast producer who has ever touched a crate. Having him on an album with Jay Worthy is not a stunt — the musical lineage is direct. Jay Worthy's production aesthetic with Sean House in LNDN DRGS has always pulled from the mellow and funky ends of late 70s and early 80s R&B. That is Clinton's world.

Generation P drops August 28 and features Snoop Dogg, Larry June, Leven Kali, Ty Dolla Sign,ChannelTres,TerraceMartin,Kokane,Curreny, 03 Greedo, Eyedress, Del the Funky Homosapien, Aceyalone, Ab-Soul, YG and The Game. That tracklist covers the full spectrum of West Coast hip-hop across four decades of its history. Clinton as the connective tissue between all of it makes the concept land.

Larry June on "P of the Week" feels natural. The two have been in each other's orbits for years — 2 P'z in a Pod in 2022, multiple shared features. Leven Kali brings the melodic bridge the track needs. Everything sits in its right place.
