The song closes out the emotional weight of the record, Estee Nack rapping about overcoming odds stacked against you regardless of where you come from. Now it gets an official video, and the visual matches the tone. Gritty B-movie aesthetics collide with fly neighborhood finesse, mirroring the record's cinematic energy.
Cookin Soul is one of the most respected production names in the underground, full stop. The Spanish duo built a global hip-hop passport with credits alongside Freddie Gibbs, Wiz Khalifa, Mac Miller, Nipsey Hussle, Curren$, Planet Asia and B-Real. Their signature is dusty, soul-drenched boom bap that sounds both meticulously crafted and effortlessly raw. On AL-ANDALUS they build a soundscape that feels familiar and revolutionary at the same time, every beat knocking like a fist on concrete.
Estee Nack is the perfect voice for it. The Lynn, Massachusetts MC broke out as a member of Tragic Allies before building one of the most impressive solo discographies in the underground, with collaborations spanning The Alchemist, DJ Muggs, Roc Marciano and his Griselda Records debut Nacksaw Jim Duggan. His razor-sharp street narratives and uncompromising penmanship have earned him a genuine cult following. On "Hear Me" every bar hits like a sermon.
AL-ANDALUS is named for the historical meeting point of cultures on the Iberian Peninsula, and the concept fits. American street rap and Spanish production converging into something rooted, weighty and completely without filler.
