"Bad Guy" is a Nottz-produced cut off Infinity, the latest album from the legendary Brooklyn duo. Directed by Jeff Pliskin, the video finds Tek and Steele doing exactly what they have done since 1994: telling the truth over hard production, no matter how uncomfortable it makes anyone. You keep pointing your finger at the bad guy. They are only here to tell you the truth.

Smif-N-Wessun are foundational. Tek from Bedford-Stuyvesant, Steele from Brownsville, one quarter of the Boot Camp Clik supergroup alongside Buckshot, Heltah Skeltah and Originoo Gunn Clappaz. Their 1994 debut single "Bucktown" and the album Dah Shinin' that followed in 1995 are cornerstones of the raw, hardcore Brooklyn sound that defined an entire era. Da Beatminerz production, Jamaican patois flows, street reportage with no filter. Thirty years later the standard has not dropped.

The Boot Camp Clik ecosystem has been active all year on these pages. The O.G.C. dropped "Make Peace" a few weeks back, Buckshot released the fully self-produced The Package. Infinity continues that run and confirms that Duck Down's foundational artists are in a genuinely productive phase, not a nostalgia lap.

Nottz is the right producer for this record. The Virginia beatmaker has a decades-long track record of hard, soulful boom bap and his work anchored parts of Smif-N-Wessun's The All in 2019. Pairing him with Tek and Steele again for "Bad Guy" delivers exactly what you would expect: a heat rock built for two MCs who have never needed anything more than a strong beat and something real to say.
