Talib Kweli and Large Professor released the official video for "Rare Heir" on Friday, September 25. Bun B joins them on the record, Large Pro handles the production, and Chino Chase shot the visual.
Queens, Brooklyn, Port Arthur
The lineup covers a lot of ground. Large Professor is the East Elmhurst, Queens producer behind Main Source and early Nas records. Kweli comes out of Brooklyn with Black Star and Reflection Eternal. Bun B brings the UGK legacy from Port Arthur, Texas.
A Rawkus Lineage
For me, Kweli is tied to the Rawkus era. Reflection Eternal cuts like "On Mission" and "Chaos" with Bahamadia ran on the Soundbombing II singles in 1999. "Rare Heir" fits that lineage. The title is about inheritance, and the song asks who actually carries the craft forward. Large Pro keeps the drums heavy and the tempo pushing, and all three MCs sound at home on it.
