The vibe is dusk, not daylight. I wanted the loop to feel a little haunted, the kind of thing that hangs behind Conway's cadence without fighting it. Westside Gunn's ad-libs cut through the way they always do, and the beat just holds the room for them.
Why this flip works
Griselda records live and die on atmosphere, and the "Dunks" acapella already carries that weight. My job here was to give it a bed that respects the original grit without copying it. The piano loop is the anchor. Everything else stays out of the way. Drums are dry and unhurried so the vocals stay in front.
Influence and production notes
The mood here leans on DJ Muggs. Not the melodies, the atmosphere. That heavy, smoke-filled darkness he gets on his Griselda-adjacent work is what I was chasing. I also spent some time on the arrangement, trying out a few structural ideas to keep the loop from getting repetitive across the full runtime. It is inspiration, not imitation. The sample work stays subtle and the pulse stays even.
