Cookin Soul has a new flip out: "El Químico y el Doctor", with The Alchemist and Action Bronson on the vocals and a video on his YouTube channel. As far as I can tell, this is a Cookin Soul production built around existing acapellas from Al and Bronson, the same approach he uses on his remix series. Which songs the verses originally come from is not stated.
The Chemist and the Doctor
The title translates to "The Chemist and the Doctor", and it reads like a character sheet. El Químico is Alchemist, the name says it all. El Doctor points to Bronson, who called his 2024 album Johann Sebastian Bachlava the Doctor. Putting it in Spanish is the Cookin Soul touch.
A Long History
Pairing these two vocals makes sense. Al and Bronson released Rare Chandeliers together in 2012, still one of the best projects in either catalog, and Al was a regular on Fuck, That's Delicious, Bronson's food show for Vice. Alchemist also produced on Bronson's later albums, from Cocodrillo Turbo to Johann Sebastian Bachlava the Doctor. Here the roles shift: Al is on the mic, and somebody else makes the beat.
Cookin Soul's Formula
Cookin Soul is a producer from Valencia, Spain who has built a huge catalog of remixes and collaborations with US rappers, from Larry June to Estee Nack. Taking acapellas and building a new world around them is one of his signature moves. For me as a beatmaker, that is the real appeal of a release like this: you hear familiar voices through a completely different sound.
More of his work is on Bandcamp.
