The Doppelgangaz do things their way. That's never changed.
"What's Going Awn?" is the latest piece from their upcoming album Beats for Brothels, Vol. 9 — dropping June 26 via their own Groggy Pack Entertainment. Matter Ov Fact and EP have been building this universe independently since 2011 and Vol. 9 is exactly what the title suggests: a continuation of something that was never meant for the mainstream and never pretended otherwise.
The Doppelgangaz handle everything themselves. Written, produced, recorded, mixed, mastered, photographed and art directed by the duo at The Brothel in 845 NY. No label interference, no outside producers, no features on the credits. That level of control is rare and it shows in the consistency — every release sounds like them because every release is entirely them.
Matter Ov Fact and EP have been friends since childhood, deciding to make music together back in 1998. That longevity translates into a shorthand most rap duos never develop. The cloaked aesthetic, the deliberate weirdness, the laid-back yet sinister production — it's not a brand strategy, it's just who they are.
Beats for Brothels Vol. 9 comes in at 18 tracks. "What's Going Awn?" appears as both an interlude and a full track on the album. The video is out now.
