The Doppelgangaz are back. "Planck epoch" is the first video and the opening track of their new album Dopp Ganguage, which drops on November 20, 2026 via Bandcamp. In the clip, the cloaked duo ends up aboard a flying saucer, which fits a song named after the very beginning of the universe.
Before the Big Bang
The Planck epoch is the earliest period in the history of the universe, the first fraction of a second after the Big Bang, roughly 10⁻⁴³ seconds. Physics as we know it breaks down there. The Doppelgangaz use it as the ultimate flex: their crew, they claim, was wearing black cloaks long before that. It is the kind of absurd, dry humor they have built their whole catalog on.
The Ghastly Duo
Matter ov Fact and EP have been doing everything themselves for well over a decade. Beats, raps, mixing and artwork all come from the duo, recorded in their own studio in upstate New York they call The Brothel. Their sound sits between dusty boom bap and odd, cinematic samples, and their lyrics mix street imagery with deadpan jokes.
Dopp Ganguage runs 12 tracks and includes an instrumental of "Planck epoch". For me, that is always a good sign with a producer duo. They know the beats can stand on their own.
Back on the Blog
I have been following the Doppelgangaz since 2011, when their videos were a regular part of this blog. Go back to Nexium, At Night, Schemes, Get Em, What Am I and Cover Blown. Seeing them still put out new music with the same cloaked attitude more than a decade later makes this one special for me.
