Talib Kweli and Planet Asia have released a new lyric video for "Repentance". Unjust directed and animated the clip. iZZNYCE produced the track, which already got an official video by Chino Chase in September.
A Reunion 26 Years in the Making
This is far from their first record together. In 2000, Planet Asia and Kweli released "Don't Let Up" as a 12-inch on Mona Hip Hop, a song that still holds up. Since then, Kweli built his catalog with Black Star and Reflection Eternal in Brooklyn, while Planet Asia became one of the most productive MCs on the West Coast, from the Cali Agents days to countless one-producer albums.
The connection runs beyond music. In October, Planet Asia was a guest on Kweli's podcast Lemme Ask You This with Tef Poe.
Repentance
The title speaks for itself: remorse, reckoning and what you owe yourself and others. iZZNYCE gives both MCs a calm, heavy beat, and they use it like two grown men taking stock. For me, this pairing makes complete sense, because neither of them ever chased trends.
Kweli has been on a run this fall. In September he also teamed up with Large Professor and Bun B: Talib Kweli & Large Professor – Rare Heir ft. Bun B.
